Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) Benefits

Yes, CLA works in reducing body fat in both healthy and overweight individuals, but mixed results come from CLA in antioxidant studies:

CLA for Fat-Loss:

• 0.6g of CLA taken three times daily: Body fat was significantly reduced in the CLA group during the study, but not in the placebo group, and body weight remained unchanged.
• Conjugated linoleic acid reduces body fat in overweight and obese humans but no additional effect is achieved with doses > 3.4g CLA/day.
• A 1-year study in healthy individuals showed that CLA achieved more body-fat loss than CLA-free fatty acids and olive oil placebos.

• CLA antioxidant studies for free-radical scavenging are inconclusive.
• This study, however, states that data indicates that CLAs would provide protection against free radicals.

• High intakes of high-fat dairy foods and CLA may reduce the risk of colorectal (colon) cancer.
• CLA compounds possess potent antiestrogenic properties that may at least partly account for their antitumor activity on breast cancer cells.
• CLA treatments promote tumor-suppressing proteins in human breast cancer cells -- Note that we don't understand a damned word of this study, but it sounds good and there are dozens more like it.

However, CLA has been shown to reduce insulin sensitivity in type-II diabetes patients, so if you have diabetes, you should probably consult a doctor before considering CLA.
