Does Guarana Work?
Yes, guarana has been shown to positively affect mood and cognition in ways beyond what its caffeine content can do alone:
Guarana for Brain Cognition:
- This research study supports previous findings of cognitive improvements following 75 mg guaraná and provides the first exploration of different dose effects of guaraná in humans. The findings suggest that the effects cannot be attributed to caffeine alone.
- Guarana, and to a lesser extent ginseng, led to significant improvements in serial subtraction task performance. These results provide the first demonstration in humans of the psychoactive effects of guarana, and confirmation of the psychoactive properties of ginseng.
- When mixed with ma huang (ephedra), this herbal mixture of Ma Huang and Guarana effectively promoted short-term weight and fat loss. Safety with long-term use requires further investigation.
- A study on extracts of Asparagus, Green tea, Black tea, Guarana, Mate and Kidney beans caused a significant change of the Body Composition Improvement Index and the decrease in body fat was statistically significant.
