Iron Side Effects

See the Iron Factsheet for all of the side effects: Therapeutic doses of iron supplements, which are prescribed for iron deficiency anemia, may cause gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, dark colored stools, and/or abdominal distress.

Note that iron overdoses, especially in infants, toddlers, and children can lead to DEATH. Read the factsheet linked above and talk to your doctor about your child's diet.

Is Iron safe?

Iron supplements are safe when taken under care of a doctor. For the rest of us, multivitamins and healthy diets should be all that we need.
